DiMaria Wins Morton Grove Mayor Race

With 16 of 16 precincts reporting, DiMaria has racked up 70 percent of the vote.

As vote totals have come in since about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dan DiMaria of Morton Grove's Action Party has earned about 70 percent of the vote, with Larry Gomberg, who ran as an independent, with 30 percent. That means DiMaria will become the village's mayor.

DiMaria also unseated incumbent Mayor Dan Staackmann in the Feb. 26 primary election for the Action Party's nomination. He ran on a platform of economic development, saying he would personally reach out to businesses to invite them to locate in Morton Grove, as well as give the village's professional staff the tools they need to promote economic development.

Candidate Vote Totals Vote Percentage Precincts Reporting Dan DiMaria  1,921 70% 16 of 16 Larry Gomberg     828 30% 16 of 16

Well as a resident for many years, I hope to see some positive changes in our community. It seems like we are continually being out done by our larger neighbors. As an example I hear a Mariano's grocery store is going into Skokie and also in Glenview. I would have loved to see a Mariano's in Prairie View Plaza. How do we continue to miss those opportunities? That is probably the first question I will ask out new mayor elect.

Congratulations DiMaria! I looked forward to joining you and the Giordarno's owners at the new Tilted Kilt and staring, groping and taking advantage of our young MG girls. Good times for us middle aged, creepy, money-hungry gentlemen!

Tilted Kilt should be on Kingsbury in Chicago not in this family community. I am sure Di Maria is too smart to be known for bringing this kind of business to the community.

Congratz to DeMaria.. HONESTLY I REGRET MOVING TO MORTON GROVE END OF 2005..WHen I moved here the property tax for my ranch house was 4400/ yrly..Now it stands@ 8000/..almost 650/ a month.. !!! THE VILLAGE ADMN HAS COMPLETELY FAILED IN BRINGING BUSINESSES HERE..RATHER THEY SUCCEEDED IN CLOSING DOWN MANY...!! MORTON GROVE IS NOW INFAMOUS FOR SENDING SMALL AND BIG BUSINESSES LIKE ABT AWAY..!! THE ADMN WITHOUT ANY REMORSE INCREASED THE VILLAGE STICKERS FROM 35/- TO 55/-.....
