Morton Grove Mayor Chooses New Trustee

The village of Morton Grove released the following statement Wednesday, Oct. 2, just after 5 p.m. 

At the October 7, 2013 special meeting of the village board of trustees, Mayor Dan DiMaria plans to appoint Janine Witko to the trustee position vacated by Tony Kalogerakos.

Witko currently serves on the Plan Commission, having been appointed by former Mayor Staackmann in 2012. Former Mayor Krier appointed her to the Economic Development Commission in 2007, where she served as vice president until 2012. Janine is also an active member of the Park View School PTO and previously served on its board.

Mayor DiMaria was impressed by Witko’s positive attitude and independent judgment. 

“Janine’s record of being appointed by our two previous mayors shows me that serving the community is more important to Janine than politics. She has a reputation for working as a team to get things done, which is exactly what we need,” he said. 

Witko is both excited and humbled by this appointment.

“I share Mayor DiMaria’s vision for moving Morton Grove forward," she said. “I care deeply about our village today and in the future. While we face many challenges, Morton Grove is on the cusp of major progress and I am dedicated to working hard for our residents and our Village’s success.”

Before selecting Witko, Mayor DiMaria considered the applications of several qualified candidates and received input from village trustees. 

“I want to thank everyone who participated in this process, some of whom have since applied for positions on other Village committees and boards.  It was great to speak with residents who want to serve our village,” DiMaria said.

If the Village Board confirms Ms. Witko’s appointment, she shall serve as Trustee until the April 2015 municipal election.
