Morton Grove Police Chief To Retire Next Year

The village council room burst into a round of applause for Chief Mark Erickson.

Morton Grove Mayor Dan DiMaria announced at Monday's village board meeting that Police Chief Mark Erickson has decided to retire.

Erickson said it was a tough decision to make, but that it seemed like the right time. He will stay on until mid-2014, possibly stepping down in the spring.

DiMaria said Erickson is a (nearly) 30-year-veteran of the Morton Grove police force, having started in 1984, and has held virtually all positions within the department. He called for a round of applause for Erickson, and the trustees, staff and spectators burst into applause.

Erickson said he told police department members the news quietly last Friday so they could hear it directly from him.
