Morton Grove Receives 25 Books About Islam

The library received the books from a grant. It will display them and may design some programs around them, possibly with neighboring libraries which also received grants.

Have you been curious to learn more about Islam? The Morton Grove applied for a "Muslim Journeys Bookshelf" grant, and was one of about 850 libraries in the nation which received it, according to Pam Leffler, the library director.

The library received 25 books, from literature such as the classic Arabian nights to Sufi poetry by Rumi and Attar, to books about Islamic contributions to science and an exploration of the Quran.

More information about the grant and the books can be found here, from the Martin Marty Center for the Advanced Study of Religion at the University of Chicago. Rizwan Kadir, immediate past president of the Muslim Community Center Full-Time School in Morton Grove, authored the Marty Center article.

Leffer said the library will be doing displays of the books, and is considering programming around them, both at Morton Grove Public Library and in conjunction with other nearby libraries which also received the books.

Hi Comment Guy, Thanks for asking! I was finding that we would get a lot of people guessing forRead More some restaurants (usually when there was a payoff of free pizza), and not very many people entering for other restaurants. Do you think we should bring them back? I'm open to people's opinions. --Pam

Hi Pam, Yes, I thought it would be great if we brought it back. For me personally, whenever I wouldRead More seed the contest on my Twitter timeline, I would immediately go to the site. And if there is an offer of free food even better. It does not even necessarily be a restaurant as it can also be any other type of business, i.e., bakery, retail, gym, car services, etc.
