Niles Goes To The Polls

Turnout has been calm so far.

About 75 people had voted at the Oasis Fun Center polling place in Niles by about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Election judges at that location, which is Precinct 59, thought the fact that the polling location was changed from the Lone Tree Manor restaurant to Oasis may have contributed to the low turnout.

An election worker who gave her name only as Teresa said she lives in the precinct, and that a mailing from the Cook County Clerk's office about three weeks ago listed Lone Tree Manor as the polling place, and a mailing that arrived yesterday told voters to vote at Oasis.

"The location change may be confusing people," said Norman Grossman, one of the election judges.

Jim Henderson, another election judge, said his wife was an election judge at District 63's Washington School in Glenview, and they had had only six voters by midday.
