Niles Library To Stay Open Sundays This Summer
Last year it was closed Sundays from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Kids, job seekers, book lovers, students and others will get to come to the Niles Library on Sundays this summer.
The library board voted Wednesday to keep the building open on Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m., the same hours as the rest of the year. In recent years, the library has been closed on Sundays from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
"A long time ago, before we had a budget crisis under the previous director, the library was open Sundays during the summer," said Morgan Dubiel, the board president.

The board has focused on fiscal prudence since then, he added. Staying open Sundays will cost about $1,400 for staffing, plus a small cost for utilities, during each of the nine summer Sundays the building will be open.
Dennis O'Donovan, a board member, said remaining open will be a boon to job seekers, people taking summer school classes, people seeking videos to watch on the weekend, and others.

"We may have to hire a few people for those days, so there may possibly be job opportunities for college kids for the summer," he added.
Many other libraries in the area are open summer Sundays.
