Niles Looks At Reinvigorating Touhy Avenue Corridor

Mayor wants properties like the shuttered motel and abandoned auto dealership to get some new life.

Niles Mayor Andrew Przybylo would like to see the businesses on Touhy Avenue revitalized, and a more thriving business climate in the area.

Przybylo cited the shuttered motel on Touhy just east of Caldwell, the long-vacant auto dealership near the Leaning Tower YMCA and land behind Graziano's restaurant as properties that need some attention.

"Our Touhy corridor, from Lehigh to Caldwell, needs some strengthening," he said. "There are nine acres behind Graziano's that need to be developed."

Przybylo said the idea would tie in with his idea to create a Commission for Neighborhood Development and Economic Renewal, which would tap people with expertise in banking, real estate and other areas to brainstorm ideas to improve areas of the village.

Joseph Matuschka, the owner of Hofbrauhaus in Rosemont's MB Financial Park, met with Przybylo to test the waters of an idea to bring a German American cultural center to the property where the shuttered motel now stands, the Journal & Topics reported.
