Niles' Loss of Driver's Facility is Des Plaines Gain, Officials Say
Public officials say when the driver's license facility left Niles, business went down in the Four Flaggs Shopping Center.
Des Plaines officials say a proposed driver's license testing center in town will bring in more tax dollars, Journal & Topics reports. When the proposed center left Niles, they added, business there went down. They say the center, which some residents are opposing because of increased traffic, will attract more patrons to businesses in the area of Lee and Oakton Streets where it is set to open this Fall.
The center will be located next to Jewel on Lee Street. Des Plaines City Manager Mike Bartholomew and State Rep. Marty Moylan say the hundreds of cars visiting the area each day will frequent the business for shopping and eating. The center previously was located in Niles at Four Flaggs Shopping Center, but closed earlier this year. Moylan said companies in Four Flaggs near Milwaukee Avenue and Golf Road say business has been down there since the facility left.
