Niles Village Board To Meet Tuesday

Will consider ethics appointments, vehicle immobilization program.

The Niles Village Board will meet Tuesday at 8 p.m., and the agenda calls for several honorary acknowledgements, such as for the sponsors of the Niles Community Rain Garden rededication, the child winners of a t-shirt design contest and the presentation of a badge to newly-appointed Fire Chief Steve Borkowski.

The agenda also calls for the board to vote on whether or not to approve the individuals Mayor Robert Callero appointed to the village's Ethics Committee. The board did not approve the appointments at its May 24 meeting. At that time, Trustee Louella Preston pointed out that none of the individuals the mayor appointed to that body, as well as the Community Relations Commission, were women. Trustee Rosemary Palicki, who first became seated at the May 24 village board election after winning the April 5 election, encouraged the mayor to seek out diverse candidates in future rounds of committee appointments.

Items to be discussed Tuesday under the new business category include a vehicle immobilization and tow program, a change to the trampoline ordinance in light of a new trampoline facility planning on opening in Niles, and consideration of village policy on appointing acting heads to fill vacancies in village leadership positions, as well as posting of employment opportunities.
