Niles Wants Your Input On Power Outages

Village will hold two meetings, Aug. 11 and 13, to hear about residents' experiences and determine how village can help.

No government can change the weather, but the village of Niles wants to ask residents how it can better help them deal with the weather--specifically, the type of severe weather that causes power outages.

Village employees are asking residents to tell them how the village can better help them during a power outage at two meetings:

  • Thursday Aug. 11 from 7 to 9 p.m.
  • Saturday Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Both meetings will be held at village hall, in Civic Center Plaza, at the southeast corner of Oakton Street, and Waukegan Road.

“This will allow the Village to be better aware of how we can assist our residents when the next outage inevitably occurs”, said Village Manager George R. Van Geem in a statement.

“As long as there are electric wires, trees, high winds and lightning there will be occasional power interruptions."

Residents who can't attend either meeting are asked to send comments to manager@vniles.com or by post to Village Manager, 1000 Civic Center Drive, Niles IL 60714.

After being that darkened thousands of homes in June and then again in July, village staff were getting calls from people who had been without power to refrigerate and cook their food, power their appliances and medical devices, and, for those who work from home, their work equipment.

Life was getting challenging for people who were without power for as long as four full days.
