Pisa Guests to Lean on Niles Residents

Sister Cities program to accommodate 8 Italian visitors at private homes starting Oct. 18.

Five women and three students from Pisa, Italy, are coming to visit Niles through the Sister Cities program this month.

"There are five adults, two girls and a boy," said Joe Annunzio, the village attorney and the chairman of the Pisa committee of Niles' Sister Cities effort.

The village has four Sister Cities: Nafplion, Greece; Leixlip, Ireland; Limanowa, Poland; and Pisa.  A delegation from Leixlip visited in September.

"We're taking a new direction with this one. We've usually been more formal, with official ceremonies.  Now we're going to do it more informally," he said.

The Niles Sister Cities committee members plan to take the visitors to a sports bar, arrange transportation to explore downtown Chicago and other activities during their stay from Oct. 18-25.

"They seemed to be interested in visiting the big museums downtown," Annunzio said.

The students may also spend a day visiting a local high school, he said. They all have some knowledge of English, and preferred to stay in private homes.
