Recycle Broken Holiday Lights
Your Christmas light strings have had it? Bring them, and expired extension cords, in for recycling.
If you're taking down your holiday lights, you can help the environment by recycling them.
The Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County, which includes many member municipalities, Elgin Recycling, Inc. and the Village of Niles are accepting worn-out, frayed and non-working light strings and extension cords.

According to Niles' Environmental Practices Committee, the strands and cords will be chopped and baled and sold as a commodity to industry. They'll eventually be made into new products, thus keeping the old items out of landfills.

- Niles Family Fitness Center, 928 Civic Center Drive (in the Niles government complex on the southeast corner of Waukegan Road and Oakton Street). Hours: Monday - Thursday 5:30 am to 10:00 pm; Friday 5:30 am to 9:00 pm; Saturday - Sunday 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
