Rosemont Mall Will Compete With Golf Mill

The 550,000 sq. ft. development is coming at a time when Niles is considering a special tax for Golf Mill to fund renovations at the shopping center to keep it an economic engine for the village.

The Rosemont Village Board approved a series of ordinances that moves the village one step closer to a new fashion outlet mall and parking garage at a special meeting on Tuesday, Journal and Topics Newspapers reported.

Rosemont Mayor Bradley Stephens said the development, which is expected to open in the spring, could bring 3,000 new jobs to the village and bring in $9 million in annual tax revenue.

The move is significant for Niles, because Golf Mill has argued it needs money to renovate to stay competitive with the coming Rosemont mall as well as planned mall improvements in Mount Prospect. The village of Niles will hold a public hearing Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. to hear comments on whether a 0.25 percent sales tax should be imposed on sales at Golf Mill to fund the improvements.
