The information is required by FEMA in order to determine if the county and village are eligible for Federal Disaster reimbursements. No federal disaster declaration has been made at this time. If a declaration is made, residents will have to submit the information directly to FEMA.

The surveys are due by Friday at 3 p.m.

Steve Vinezeano, assistant village manager, told the Village Board he estimates 246 houses in Niles flooded as a result of the severe storm early Saturday morning. He said the estimate was based upon phone calls and surveying neighborhood streets for houses with wet debris in front of them.

Residents should call Village Hall if their homes are flooded because the village reports the data to the county, which can report to the state, which can report to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, Vinezeano said. If the damage is widespread enough, people might qualify for some kind of disaster aid, he said.
