Woman Slaps Taxi Driver In the Head, Police Say

A male taxi driver, 67, from Blue Island reported Feb. 16 just after 2 a.m. that his passenger, a 27-year-old Arlington Heights woman, got into a fare dispute with him.

The passenger used a debit card to pay for her fare, but did not sign the receipt, he said, after he drove her to a location in the 7600 block of Milwaukee Avenue, according to the report. As she was walking away, he tried to stop her to ask her to sign the receipt, and she slapped him in the head and went inside, the report indicated. Police found the woman, who said she paid with her debit card and did not realize she hadn't signed the receipt. She said she did not remember slapping the driver. Police said there were no visible signs of injury and the driver did not want to sign complaints. 

Man charged with felony harassment is arrested on warrant

Darren Urbaszewski, 36, of West Peterson Avenue, Chicago, was charged with Class 4 Felony Telephone Harassment after police received a phone call Feb. 16 saying that he was in the parking lot of a mall in the 9500 block of Milwaukee Avenue. Police located him and took him into custody. His court date is March 6 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.

Scammers try 'your grandson was arrested' trick

In an Attempted Deceptive Practice case, an 80-year-old woman told police Feb. 15 she received a phone call from a man who said her son was in jail in Chicago. Another man got on the phone line and identified himself as the grandson's lawyer, saying he needed her to wire $3,900 to the Philippines so he could bail out her grandson. The victim contacted her grandson, who said he was fine and had never been arrested. Police advised the woman it was a scam.
