More Reasons To Oppose Medical Marijuana Legislation

Under this proposal one can smoke marijuana and drive. Cities cannot stop marijuana from being dispensed. And do we want teens to have 13 joints per day?

1. DUI. Illinois has laws prohibiting driving under the influence of Marijuana. Now, certain legislators are arbitrarily deciding that people can drive while using the drug.

2. Under this bill a high school senior who is a qualified patient would receive enough marijuana every 14 days to make 183 joints. Thats 13 per day. Even a pot head smokes only an average of three or four joints a day; therefore he or she could have over 100 joints to sell or share.

3. This bill pre-empts home rule. It proposes that no unit of government including home rule units, may unreasonably prohibit the cultivation, dispensing and use of medical marijuana.

4. The US Department Of Justice and US Attorneys in Illinois have gone on record that they will enforce federal laws prohibiting the sale and distribution of marihuana regardless of any state laws permitting such action.

American Academy Of Pediatrics; Illinois Church Action On Alcohol And Addiction; Association Of Drug Court Professionals; Illinois Sheriff's Association; and The Illinois Association Of Chiefs Of Police.

 I am unaware of any medicine that has to be smoked.
