Once Upon A Time At Christmas.

During the holiday season I often reminisce and ruminate about Christmas' past. I especially think back on how my parents celebrated their holiday spirit during my years at Niles Public School South. My folks owned and operated a bakery in Niles on Waukegan Rd., just south of Oakton St., next door to Pankau Pharmacy.
Every year they hosted a school field trip to the bakery where Mom and Dad would demonstrate how Gingerbread Santa and his North Pole House were produced and decorated. The students and their chaperone's always enjoyed the seminar and asked many questions. At the conclusion of the session each attendee was given a Gingerbread Santa. Mom and Dad's Christmas spirit was not limited to the abovementioned field trip, they also donated dozens of pounds of cookies and dozens of donuts, danish sweetroles, coffee cakes and other pastries to the Saint Hedwigs Orphanage which was located where
Pioneer Patk now stands.
My parents, grandparents and other loved ones have passed on and we miss them, but their spirit of christmas and legacy lives on within us as ours does within our children and grandkids. Our lives are like a slow moving bus with people getting on and getting off all of the time, when their gone fond memories remain and frequently tug at our hearts.
Once Upon A Time never comes again but thats what memories are for. Hey everyone have a Merry and Healthy Christmas!!!
