Parental Authority vs The Authoritarian
Sometime it seems that there is an epidemic among teens of high school age of disrespect and misbehavior and we cannot expect basic institutions i.e., schools, religion or government to raise our youngsters. If there is one single reason why parents should expect the respect and obedience of their kids it is "Authority". What holds the family unit together is parental authority it is the backbone of the family. Some homes, however, have abandoned it mistaking authority as a form of tyranny. The aversion to authority plays to the fear of parents being overly controlling thus being considered parental tyrants. In some instances authority has become confused with authoritarianism but the fact is that they or totally opposed to each other. What needs to be understood is that authoritarism is a pathaological caricature of authority, they are related as sickness is to health.
Genuine authority based upon a parent's belief in their calling is the source from which a child derives a sense of belonging to a family held together by loyalty and love. In this setting the children ate taught to accept the triditions, laws and rules of civilized society and to recognize the authority of clergy, educators and the police.
