Calistri, Jones Ink College Commitments

Five other Warriors to continue sports careers.

senior athletes  and  signed national letters of intent Wednesday to compete in their sports at the college level.

Calistri will play soccer for Northwestern University while Jones will be a free safety on the football team at Alabama A & M.

At least five other Warriors on their way to university sports careers including basketball player , tennis star , Illinois state diving champion , girls soccer player Megan Perna and triple jumper and Patch columnist .

Jones found a place where he can combine his gridiron skills with his intended course of study of supply chain management. “It’s the right fit for me,” he said. “It’s what I was looking for and it has the major I was looking for.

A four-year starter, Calistri is the Warriors all time scoring leader who helped Deerfield reach the Sectional final this year.

“He’s one of the hardest working players I’ve ever coached,” Head Coach Elliott Hurtig said. “He has a true passion for the game. He always likes to be around the soccer ball and he leads by example because he works so hard in practice.

Calistri will be joining two other Warrior soccer players already at Northwestern, sophomores Scott Lakin and Connor Holoway. Calistri was glad they were there to help.

“I made the decision myself,” Calistri said. “They were there to help me and I look forward to playing with them again. It’s a close knit group (the Wildcats) and I look forward to being part of it.

Robbie Weis, who plays for Lake Forest College and Northern Illinois University’s Hooman Shams are two other Warrior soccer players in the college ranks. According to Hurtig, other Warriors are waiting to make their university choice.

Katz will be on the track and field team at Dartmouth College, Perna will play soccer for the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, Purdy will dive for the University of North Carolina, Brown will be playing tennis for Yale and Yucknut will play basketball at Washington University in St. Louis where she will join former Warrior Andrew Goldstick who plays for the baseball team there.

If Patch has missed any Warrior athletes who have made their college choice, please let us know so we can write about you too.
