New Faces Coming To School District 63

There are two incoming principals, an assistant principal and interim Special Ed director; also, here's a list of those who retired.

If your child attends Nelson or Mark Twain Schools or Gemini Junior High in Niles, Melzer School in Morton Grove, Apollo or Stevenson Schools in Des Plaines, or Washington School in Glenview, they'll be seeing some new faces soon.

There are also teachers and other staff they won't be seeing, because they retired at the close of school.

Bublitz received his M.A. in writing at Depaul University and then began teaching in alternative and therapeutic settings while studying for an M.A. in Special Education at Northeastern Illinois University. He's working toward Ed. D at Loyola University. He taught Special Education Resource students at Gemini Junior High for five years, then was named facilitator and has served in that role for four years.

Bublitz said, "We will continue our work toward a better Least Restrictive Model.  I would also like to focus on supporting staff with classroom and behavior management as that is often a primary concern for teachers when supporting the diverse needs of students in general education classes. Of course, we will continue to support our staff in developing skills for educating all children regardless of ability."

  • The district did not find a new technology director, so Judy Satkiewicz agreed to delay her retirement by one year and stay on in that role until next June.
  • At Apollo School, Amy Presker will start as principal on July 1.
  • At Gemini Junior High, Richard Groeling is coming in as principal on July 1.
  • At Nelson School, Timothy Grivois-Shah will become assistant principal on July 1.
  • Also at Nelson, school psychologist Ella Farmer has left, and a replacement for her has not yet been named.
