Maine East, Gemini present Band-O-Rama

Maine East High School bands, together with Gemini Junior High School bands, will present their Band-O-Rama concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, in the school auditorium.

Gemini’s featured bands are the Symphonic Band and Concert Band, while Maine East’s featured bands, led by Director of Bands Pamela Holt, are the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band.  About 90 Gemini and 80 Maine East students will be performing.

The Gemini Concert and Symphonic Bands, from East Maine School District 63, will be presenting a lively mix of marches, overtures, and upbeat original compositions for bands.

Holt said that the Maine East Symphonic Band will start its program with an energetic fanfare, followed by settings of multiple folk songs.  She said the Maine East Wind Ensemble will take their fanfare from the Irish tradition, continuing with a gorgeous, yet lively tone poem, and concluding their portion of the concert with a very driving piece featuring our percussionists.

All of the bands will combine at the end of the concert to perform a new work by composer Matt Conaway, a close friend of the Maine East band program.
