Maine South Open House for Electives Programs

Eighth graders who will enter Maine South High School as freshmen in August are invited – along with their parents – to a Thursday, January 13 open house showcasing the many elective programs that Maine South has to offer.

Hosting the Open House will be the high school's Applied Arts & Technology, Fine Arts and Foreign Language Departments.  Students and parents will be treated to a number of presentations, demonstrations and tours of the elective programs.  These activities are designed to give students and their parents a better idea of the opportunities available in the areas of Family and Consumer Sciences, Business, Applied Technology, Theatre/Drama, Music, Visual Arts, Radio/Television/Broadcasting, French, German, Italian, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.

Department Chairs Dr. Patricia Duggan (Applied Arts & Technology), Teralyn Keith (Fine Arts) and Susan Kramer (Foreign Language) have planned the evening with an eye toward the benefits that these electives play in enriching students' high school experience and helping them determine which areas of study most interest them as they choose a college and higher-education major.

The open house also will give eighth-grade students and their parents a chance to familiarize themselves with elective options in advance of the Feb. 3 Freshmen Orientation  Night, when incoming freshmen will make course selections.

The open house will begin with a full-group presentation at 6:30 p.m. in Maine South's Watson Auditorium.  Maine South is located at 1111 South Dee Road in Park Ridge.
