Securing Your Future, a Planning Seminar for People with Early Stage Dementia

Hear about early stage tips on legal and financial planning through the Alzheimer's Association seminar at the Lombard Beacon Hill Retirement Community on Thursday, June 23rd from 4:00-7:00pm. The information will lead and educate families on the benefits of early preparation as a means to maintain a healthy and fulfilling quality of life.

“While Alzheimer’s Disease is the most prevalent form of dementia, other progressive brain diseases such as Vascular Disease (stroke), Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), Frontotemporal Dementia, Lewy Body Disease and Primary Progressive Aphasia also necessitate strategic and advanced planning,” explained Nicole Batsch, director of early stage and support services for the Greater Illinois Chapter.  “In Illinois alone, 210,000 people are estimated to be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.  As people are being diagnosed earlier than ever before, over half have the desire and capability to participate in planning for their future care needs.  Currently, care in the U.S. is mostly provided by families, and the cost of at-home and long term care expenses can add up to $60,000-80,000 per year.  It’s vital that people with the diagnosis and their families be educated as soon as possible on future issues.”

An Illinois Focus Group held in 2008 showed that legal and financial planning were listed in the top four issues of information and support needed for those with early stage dementia and their families. Through this seminar, you will be able to meet other families with similar struggles and gain information on available legal and financial resources/strategies.
