Sprouts 101 - Northshore Old Time Skills

This North Shore Old Time Skills Meet Up will answer the question: "Why grow sprouts at home?"

Most of us depend on fresh produce that is transported across half a continent. Though we may garden in the summer, winter stops all but the most dedicated, or most southern, gardeners. Home sprouting can supply delicious fresh food, without the environmental drawbacks of the Mega-farm produced produce, and at a fraction of the cost. Sprouting is germinating seeds to be eaten either raw or cooked. They are a way to have fresh vegetables for salads, or otherwise, in any season and can be germinated at home. Sprouts are highly nutritious and rich in enzymes. Sprouting at home takes only a few seconds a day and can produce a good part of your daily requirements of the nutrients you need from fresh produce. The hassles are minor, the costs are low, and the freshness is wonderful. If you can supply a jar, some screen or netting, and rinse the sprouts twice a day, you can grow delicious organic sprouts in 4 to 6 days. We will cover the methods of sprouting, where to acquire seeds and some of the many uses of sprouts.

Old Time Skills is designed as a resource... a source of information insuring not only that you and your family will survive... but that they will thrive.
It is based upon a mantra from the Great Depression that was inculcated in me by my parents and grandparents: "Use it up... wear it out... make it over... or do without.

It is our goal to help each other in learning and practicing the old-time practical skills like gardening; canning; food dehydrating; leather and wood crafting as well as outdoor skills such as hunting; fishing ; outdoor survival and trapping.

A sensible person watches for problems ahead and prepares
