Highland Park School Superintendents Ready for Your Questions

Want to know more about the likelihood of another referendum in District 113 or about how District 112's teachers are doing after last fall's strike? Head to this open forum on Thursday.

The superintendents of both of Highland Park's school districts will take your questions at a public forum on Thursday evening.

The event was originally scheduled for October, but was delayed when the District 112 teachers' strike began.

Curious about whether or not there will be another referendum to renovate Highland Park High School? Wondering about District 112's facilities, or how its schools are doing in the aftermath of its teachers' strike? Here's your chance to get answers straight from the source.

The event will be held on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Deerfield High School. It's been organized by the Highland Park League of Women Voters. The superintendents will speak about the two districts' long-range vision and then take questions from the public, according to league president Barbara Lippai.

"We're going to be very careful to make sure we're keeping the focus not just one one district," Lippai told Patch earlier this week.

Before District 112's strike last fall, the league began gathering information from District 112 to get a better understanding of the district's finances. Though this forum is part of that information gathering process, it is also designed to give residents a better understanding of how their schools operate.

"Our goal is not just to study for the sake of study," Lippai said, "but to educate the public."

The questions at Thursday's forum will not be reviewed before they're asked, which Lippai hopes will lead to a more open conversation.

"The questions will not be cleared, it's a pretty open format," she said.

Will this meeting still be held at Heller Nature Center, or elsewhere?
