Mark Twain Families Yell 'Bingo'

B4 the game, kids viewed prizes.

Dozens of families watched their bingo cards intently, with chips in sorbet colors at the ready, as Mark Twain School principal Nichole Gross called out bingo numbers Friday evening at the school's Bingo Night.

Eleni Skoufos, school secretary for the East Maine School District 63 school, in Niles, wound her way through the crowd, awarding prizes to those with winning bingo cards.

The school's Parent Teacher Organization put together the evening as a fun activity for children and their parents. Jodi Scharf, a PTO leader, said 88 people had registered and about that many showed up.

Sherrone Thompson, her co-leader in the PTO, said the organization is trying to get more parents to become involved in the school and its activities. Bingo Night was designed for parents to stay and play with their children, she said, while other PTO activities have been mainly geared to children.

Iris Realiza, a parent who live in Niles, said she was enjoying herself--but perhaps not as much as her young son Bong Realiza Jr., who was beaming after he won an Elmo DVD.
