Niles School's Security Featured as National Model on 'Today Show'

The reporter takes a tour of Viola Nelson School's high-tech security system, which includes a criminal background check for all visitors.

The high-tech security at Niles' Viola Nelson School was featured on a Today Show segment this week looking at school safety in the lead-up to the anniversary of the Sandy Hook school shootings.

The school is, "at the forefront of new technology and training," the reporter says during a tour of upgrades that includes a criminal background check at the entrance and panic buttons in every classroom. Other schools in the East Maine School District 63 have similar safety precautions.

You can watch the full segment above.

What do you think of the school's safety precautions? Are they a necessary part of a school environment these days?
