Niles West 2013 Grads Attend Commencement

Congratulations to the Class of 2013.

With boys in red caps and gowns and girls wearing white, Niles West seniors processed into Welsh-Ryan Arena Thursday for their graduation ceremony.

While it was the last time the students were together as a class, it was also the last time Principal Kaine Osburn will oversee a graduation at Niles West. He is scheduled to leave at end of the year to become deputy superintendent of Naperville Community Unit District 203.

"Tonight I am blessed," he said to students and their families gathered at the arena, part of Northwestern University in Evanston.

"One does not have to be older than me to teach me wisdom. You the seniors of the Class of 2013 have taught me in a way you may not know...I urge you to pass these gifts on to others you know and one day, to your own children."

Co-valedictorians Rachel Bender and Patrick Liscio each addressed their classmates, as did Justin Sia, president of the senior class cabinet.

"It has been a huge honor, fellow grads," Sia said. "I look forward to getting together with you in 10 years and seeing how the Niles West Class of 2013 has taken the world by storm."
