Niles West Kids Win 'Harlem Shake' Contest

As soon as students in science teacher Jason Foster's class heard about the contest, they couldn't sit still. Watch the video. In fact, here are lots of Niles West Harlem Shake videos.

When Niles West News sponsored a Harlem Shake contest, various homerooms at Niles West High School started moving to the familiar beat.

Students voted in the Niles West News contest, and Science teacher Jason Foster's class won it. You can see their Harlem Shake video--and several other Harlem Shake videos filmed at Niles West--attached to this story.

Foster said the idea took off as soon as students heard about it.

"Actually, this part came about rather fast, organically, everyone in homeroom had an idea to do so we quickly agreed that everyone will do their special dance and picked a day during homeroom," he wrote in an email to Patch.

"LOL...we rehearsed it probably twice," Foster responded.

The juniors in Foster's homeroom, who are all boys, by the way, brought costumes from home, and Foster wore his lab coat.

They "gained a new since of comradeship, and want to do more competitive events!!!" he said.
