Former Olympian, coach encourage students who will use state-of-the-art gymnastics facility
Olympic gold medalist Bart Conner (Niles West class of 1976) and legendary gymnastics coach John Burkel returned to the school Sept. 2 to formally dedicate the school's new Athletic Training Center. The $3 million, 15,000-square-foot facility is the best high school gymnastics gym Burkel has seen, he said. It will be used by the school's gymastics teams as well as cheerleaders and members of the poms and diving teams. Park districts and gymnastics clubs may also use it, school officials said.
