Some Schools Adding Days To Make Up For Snow Days

Niles High School District 219 is adding a day this week and a day in June, for example.

Some school districts are adding days onto their school calendars in order to make up for Monday, Jan. 6 and Tuesday, Jan. 7, when all schools in the area cancelled classes due to the subzero weather.

Please keep in mind that if school districts declare additional snow closure days this winter, this information will change again.

  • Niles Township High School District 219 is adding a day this Friday, Jan. 17, as well as a day in June. Originally, Friday was to be a day off, so that students would have final exams Tuesday, Jan. 14 through Thursday, Jan. 16. Now, however, that exam schedule has been pushed back one day so students will have an extra day to prepare, said Jim Sczepaniak, the district's communications director. Finals are now Wednesday, Jan. 15 through Friday, Jan. 17.
  • Maine Township High School District 207 is not adding any school days, said Dave Beery, director of communications. The district builds some extra days into the calendar, he said.
Patch will update with additional school districts as they provide information.
