Schools Closing Monday Include St. John Brebeuf; Others Deciding

With temperatures forecast to range from -20 F to -6 F, schools are weighing what to do to keep kids safe.

St. John Brebeuf School in Niles will be closed Monday, and several other local school districts, including Maine Township High School District 207 and Park View Elementary District 70, are saying they are monitoring weather conditions in light of the brutally cold forecast.

With temperatures expected to climb from a low of -20 F to a high of only -6 F, students could risk frostbite or other cold-weather plagues, especially if snowy roads or equipment failures delay school buses.

Some districts plan to post on their websites Sunday night, Jan. 5, about whether school will be in session Monday. Parents are advised to check.
