Meet Chicago Cubs Second Baseman at Meijer

Pulled up from AAA last season after the Chicago Cubs traded Mike Fontenot to the Giants, Darwin Barney made his debut at Wrigley Field on August 11, 2010. This year, Meijer has called him up to be a star chef in their kitchen! Darwin Barney will make his cooking debut at Meijer on Thursday, June 16, 2011 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Barney will hang up his cleats after his 1:20 PM game with the Brewers, trade in his glove for a spatula and whip up a signature dish with Meijer Healthy Living Advisor, Maribel Alchin. The duo will prepare a Mexican Rice Bowl for the crowd and fans at the Niles Meijer store, located at 9000 W. Golf Road. Darwin Barney will be dishing up the healthy meal from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and signing autographs from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The first 150 fans in line will receive a wristband, which ensures an autograph — no posed photos, please, one autograph per person. Wristbands will be handed out beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Twenty-five year old Barney made his MLB debut in 2010 and never looked back. Joining the Cubs for a strong 2011 spring training, he earned the starting position as second baseman for the team by beating out Jeff Baker and Blake DeWitt. He’s off to an astounding start this season, with rumors floating that he’s on his way to the All-Star Game in July.
