About our speaker:  Oneri Fleita (a Niles resident) was named vice president, player personnel on October 16, 2007, after serving nearly seven years as director of player development ... in his current role, he continues to oversee the organization’s minor league system and international scouting operations ... his name is pronounced oh-NARE-ee FLEE-tah.
Joined the organization in 1995 as the manager of both the Cubs’ Williamsport (A) affiliate and their extended spring training club … was a Midwest area scout in 1996, the same year he became the coordinator of Latin American operations ... also scouted players in Georgia and Northern Florida in 1997-98, and was a crosschecker in 1999 and 2000.
Prior to working for the Cubs, he spent seven years in the Baltimore Orioles’ minor league system as a player, coach and manager … managed the Orioles’ Gulf Coast (Rookie) short-season club in 1993-1994.
Played collegiately at Miami-Dade Community College and at Creighton University … at Creighton, he earned Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year honors in 1988.
