Gale Sayers Hosting Celebs, Benefit In Niles



Chicago Bears great Gale Sayers is coming to Niles Saturday. Sept. 14 to host his celebrity-studded "An Evening With The Stars" dinner gala to help K-12 schools improve children's learning and academic results.

The evening of entertainment and philanthropy will feature a number of sports stars, as well as dinner, entertainment, awards and an open bar. VIP ticket holders will also be able to meet and pose for photos with Sayers, an NFL Hall of Famer, and the other sports figures.

They include the following honorees, according to Groupon, which is selling event tickets: 

  • NFL Hall of Famer and former Minnesota Viking Carl Eller. 
  • Former Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions player and current Jackson State head golf coach Eddie Payton.
  • Former Notre Dame halfback and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Lattner.
  • Judge Julie Robinson, who has inspired many as the first African American named to the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas. 
The event will be held at White Eagle Banquets on Milwaukee Avenue in Niles.

Proceeds from the evening will fund the Gale Sayers Education Grants, which aid urban K–12 public schools in improving test scores, boosting academic achievements, and preparing youth for college and careers, according to Groupon. 

After his running back days concluded, Sayers became a computer entrepreneur. The Gale Sayers Foundation's mission is listed as "to support schools whose mission is to improve k-12 academic results through the effective implementation of digital technology."

Tickets to the event are $150, and a VIP ticket costs $300. However, Groupon is selling the VIP tickets for $199.
