How To See Blackhawks At Friday Parade, Rally

Getting there from Niles and Morton Grove. If you drive downtown to work, be aware streets will be closed. It's a day for public transit.

Are you excited about seeing the Stanley Cup-winning Chicago Blackhawks at their Friday parade along Washington Street and rally in Grant Park?

You'll need a smart game plan, because it's going to be a crowded madhouse, with streets closed, virtually no parking and security checks.

The parade, along Washington Street from Des Plaines Street (near the two Metra stations) to Wabash (near Michigan Avenue) starts at 10:30, followed by the rally at 11. Plan to leave by 9 or so.

Here's your hat trick to see the team:

1. GETTING THERE

Whether you normally drive to work downtown or you're coming to see the Blackhawks, take public transportation. Much of the Loop and Michigan Avenue will have street closures after 8 a.m.

From Niles or Morton Grove, here are bus and train options fron the Regional Transportation Authority's trip planner. There is also an option to drive to the train.

2. GETTING IN

Coolers will be prohibited from Grant Park, and if you have a backpack or large bag, you'll have to go through a security search.

3. NOT BEING MISERABLE

The weather forecast is 77 degrees with a chance of rain. So bring a capped water bottle--which will be allowed into Grant Park--and a jacket or umbrella. Refreshments vendors will also be on site.

To learn the parade route and plan whether you want to attend the parade or rally--it might be tough to do both, check the Blackhawks' info page.
