The Glenbrook North football team played hard on Friday night, earning a brief lead early in the game and keeping the score close for most of the match. But Niles West eventually earned the 31 to 23 win.
"They made more plays than us. I'm not going to make excuses, we just need to play better," Spartan head coach, Bob Pieper, said after the game. "We need to coach better, we need to play better."
Pieper says the team will focus on getting better every day, though the team's overall performance so far this season doesn't highlight specific weaknesses on the field.
"When you're one and three, you try to fix a lot of things," Pieper said.
According to Niles West coach Scott Baum, the Wolves came into Friday's game prepared to pay close attention to GBN's players and coaching.
"Our kids play to respond, they make some plays, and every time it seemed like we answered, and that's something we haven't done in the past," Baum said. "We came into this game watching to see what they do, and that motivates us."
The team is currently undefeated with four wins so far this season, but Baum says Friday's game revealed some improvements they had to make.
"I think we're a good football team, but we don't show it all the time," Baum said. "The turnovers, the mental mistakes, we have to eliminate that."
