Last-Minute Summer Camp Guide

School's ending, and if you don't have your kids' summer planned out yet, check out the many schools, camps and fun offerings to keep them busy.

 

Sometimes, we parents think staying home with the kids will make for an idyllic summer of chasing butterflies and playing in the sprinkler.

But after a few days of sibling fights, TV marathons and "I'm bored" complaints, the proprietors of Camp Mom n' Dad may begin to think, "Am I nuts? These kids need some structured activity!"

  • Green Earth Camp at , Niles.  It’s a one day camp offered on three different dates--July 7, 11 or 14, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ages 6 to 13. $20. Location:  Beginning at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, then out in the community in a nearby park, forest preserve, and along select streets. Purpose of the camp:  It allows children to learn about maintaining God’s creation, and to take part in hands-on clean-up activities which will keep our environment cleaner and more beautiful.For more information, contact:  stmin@stmatthews.ws or (773) 266-9186.
  • Horsemanship Camp, Morton Grove. This equestrian facility and stable offers several one-week camps throughout the summer.
  • Leaning Tower YMCA offers various summer camps for ages 3-13.  
  • Morton Grove Park District, Morton Grove. Offers a wide variety of camps for children of many age levels. 
  • Niles Family Fitness Center, Niles. Offers Camp Little and other programs. 
  • Niles Park District Summer Camps, Niles. Offers a wide variety of camps from preschool age through eighth grade. 
  • Notre Dame College Prep, Niles. Summer athletic camps (many sports), summer band camp and summer academic classes.
  • Park Ridge Park District, Park Ridge. Offers sports, nature and activity camps for a variety of age levels.
  • Resurrection High School, 7500 W. Talcott, Chicago IL. Athletic camps and summer session classes. 
  • Totus Tuus Spirit Camp at Our Lady of Ransom Church, Niles. Sunday July 22 to Friday July 27. It's run by four trained college students who travel around the Archdiocese of Chicago giving the same camp experience to local churches on different weeks.  First - sixth grade meet during the day and 7th - 12th grade meets at night.
