CTA's Ventra Snafu: You Can Use Old Cards

You'll be able to use the old magnetic-stripe cards until CTA gets the Ventra cards sorted out.

On Monday, the Chicago Transit Authority stopped allowing riders to use their magnetic-stripe fare cards or Chicago cards, in an effort to switch them to the new Ventra cards. But, the Chicago Tribune reported, so many customers have not been able to activate their Ventra cards that the CTA switched course and is now allowing riders to use the old magnetic-stripe fare cards and Chicago cards.

The Ventra card vendor will now increase the number of its customer service desk representatives  to handle questions and issues, and that could take several weeks, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

The CTA's website says it introduced Ventra so commuters could use a single card to pay for CTA, Pace Bus and Metra rides.
