Cops Collect For Special Olympics

As part of the "Cop on Top" effort, they climbed onto rooftops of Dunkin Donuts shops.

 

If it had been a nicer day, Officer Paul Murphy could have worked on his tan. 

But Friday dawned at a mere 49 degrees, and police from Niles and elsewhere climbed onto the rooftops of local Dunkin Donuts stores to fundraise for Special Olympics Illinois.

Well into the day, Laura Brubaker, a records clerk for the department, was still braving the chill.

"It's June 1st and I'm wearing gloves," she said.

However, the effort may have been worth it. As police asked customers going through the drive through and entering the store to make donations to Special Olympics, they raised quite a bit of money. And everyone who donated got a coupon for a free donut, courtesy of Dunkin Donuts.

"We did really well," said Niles Police Sgt. Ron Brandt. "I think we did better than last year."
