Crowds Come From All Over For Niles' Big Greek Food Fest

Food, taverna tents set up in parking lot.

John Fisch likes the festive atmosphere, the well-ordered layout, the cleanliness and pretty much everything else about Niles' Big Greek Food Fest--so much so that he drives to it all the way from his Glen Ellyn home.

"This is the best Greek fest in Chicago by far. We make a point of coming every year," he said, sitting at an outdoor table with family and friends.

"The food is just outstanding. It's well-managed," he said.

"It's a good family atmosphere," said Sandy Falco, who was sitting next to him.

Fisch agreed, saying, "You don't have mobs of people waiting on top of each other, because of the way it's stationed out."

In fact, fest-goers could go to separate tents or stands for roast lamb, appetizers, drinks, pastries and hot dishes like souvlaki, Athenian chicken, moussaka, pastitsio and spanakopita. Although the crowds were huge, lines for food were not long.

"We look forward to coming every year," Fisch said.
