Ice Skating Rink At Old Orchard Opens, And Get Passport To Morton Grove

In this "plan your week" feature, learn about a coat drive for the needy, a chance to talk to a state senator, a workshop on preventing sexual exploitation of children and more.


  • Want to talk to a state senator about important issues facing Illinois? Sen. John Mulroe, who represents part of Niles, is holding a town hall meeting Monday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Copernicus Center on Lawrence Avenue in Chicago. Find out more. 
  • The ice skating rink at Westfield Old Orchard Mall opens Wednesday, and costs $1 admission. If you need to rent skates, that will cost you $3 more. There will be DJs on Saturday evenings, and performances Tuesdays and Sundays. 
  • Donate a slightly-used or never-used coat to help someone stay warm this winter. Rotary of the Skokie Valley is hosting a coat drive now through Dec. 13. Coats can be dropped off at a number of locations, including Oakton Park, the Weber Center, Devonshire Park, the Skokie Library, the Morton Grove Library, Feldman Park in Niles and many more.
  • The Morton Grove Library Board meets at 7 p.m. Thursday at the library. Since Director Pam Leffler is resigning effective Dec. 20, they have a lot to discuss. 
  • We can hardly wait to see where the Passport to Morton Grove event will take us. It promises entertainment, crafts and fun from the various cultures who live in Morton Grove. Saturday at 1 p.m.
  • training seminar on Preventing Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children will be held starting at 8 a.m. Saturday Nov. 30  at Willow Creek Church's branch in Northfield. Teachers, social workers, park district personnel, law enforcement, youth agency employees and anyone who feels they could help are invited to attend; $30; register.
