See A Giant Menorah Lighting and/or Sing In Do-It-Yourself Messiah
Plus, the Christmas Tree Lighting features live music, Santa and sweets.
- If you've never seen a 9-foot menorah, come to the public lighting of one Monday at 6 p.m. at Niles Nursing Center, 9777 N. Greenwood, Niles. It's outdoors, all are welcome and warm latkes and sufganiyot will be served. Organized by Chabad & FREE of Niles.
- The Do-It-Yourself Messiah starts Tuesday at 7 p.m. at St. John Brebeuf in Niles. Can't wait. The Niles Metropolitan Chorus, with professional orchestra and soloists, conducted by Marek Rachelski, started practicing back in July. It's free, but donations to the GLADD ministry for special-needs folks will be accepted. Sopranos and tenors, start your engines for this musical marvel.
- Eat pizza (or other good things that are not leftover turkey) and help homeless animals--a win-win. On Weds., Dec. 4, The Village Inn, 8050 N. Lincoln, Skokie, donates 20 percent of all sales to Wright-Way Animal Rescue, which had its building trashed when a runaway bus crashed into it Oct. 2. Just say "Wright Way" to your server.
- It's not just a Christmas Tree Lighting at Westfield Old Orchard Mall from 5 to 8 on Saturday, Dec. 7. It's followed by live entertainment, sweet treats, Santa and more.
- The Artemis Singers present "A Midwinter Night's Journey," a concert of seasonal and holiday music, both Friday and Saturday evenings at 7574 N. Lincoln Ave. $10-$15 in advance; $20 at the door. They highlight music composed by women.
- We can't guarantee fresh lettuce, but the Morton Grove Farmer's Market Winter Market happens Saturday, featuring lots of local artisans and vendors. It's worth it to come for the tamales alone. Trust me on this. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Civic Center on Dempster.
