<p>Mark Twain educates kindergarten through sixth-grade students in a diverse part of Niles on the northwest end of town.</p>
<p>Students from both Niles and unincorporated Des Plaines attend the school. Principal Nichole Gross said the school bridges the two different communities, which can sometimes be challenging.</p> <p>Students speak a variety of languages at home, including Polish, Assyrian, Russian, Chinese, Tagalog and Indian languages such as Malialam, Gujarati and Urdu. Within the district, at least 56 languages are spoken in students' homes. Gross said the school is always looking for volunteer translators.</p> <p>"Our children are able to have an experience of the world as a bigger place just by being in our building," she said. "We have a community that really cares about one another and seeks opportunities to help not only our own school community but the larger community."</p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p>
