David Wooten set up a fictitious business in Park Ridge where he would befriend customers looking to sell art, sports memorabilia or even vehicles. His scheme reached several states, Park Ridge police said, and they're seeking more victims.
Meet David Ray Wooten. Yet his victims may know him by several other names. According to police, Wooten established a fictitious company in Park Ridge in an effort to gain the trust of his victims. He then conducted business transactions with his victims, taking possession of their vehicles, sports memorabilia, cash, artwork among other things without providing the agreed upon compensation. In addition, Wooten would befriend people, often assuming the name of his previous victim, establish credibility and then commit acts of fraud, authorities said. His scheme reached states beyond Illinois, including Indiana, Wisconsin and Missouri. Police believe his ruse affected some 100 victims throughout the Midwest. Given that and the fact that a …
Passed by a 35-21 vote, the bill now goes to the desk of Gov. Pat Quinn, who has not yet said whether he intends to sign it.
By a vote of 35-21, the Illinois Senate approved legislation on Friday that would allow doctors in the state to prescribe marijuana as pain relief for severe medical conditions. The bill now goes to Gov. Pat Quinn for his signature. According to the Chicago Tribune, the bill covers 33 specific conditions—including multiple sclerosis, cancer and HIV infection—and includes several controls, with a four-year trial program, dosage limits, fingerprinting, background checks and licensed dispensing centers. “This bill is filled with walls to keep this limited,” the paper quoted sponsoring Sen. Bill Haine (D-Alton), who urged lawmakers to pass the legislation as a compassionate measure for those suffering with extreme pain. In opposition, Sen. …
Marchex Institute says Illinois residents are among the worst offenders in the country when it comes to swear words, though we are pretty courteous with 'please' and 'thank you.'
Well gosh darn it, turns out we're a bunch of potty mouths here in Illinois, thank you very much. That's the finding from the Marchex Institute, a data analysis firm, which ranks Illinois as the 5th worst cursing state in the country, though acknowledges that we're pretty liberal with our "pleases" and "thank yous." Just in time for National Etiquette Week, Marchex released findings on the most courteous and the least courteous states in the nation. The Institute examined more than 600,000 phone calls from the past 12 months. You know, the calls that "may be recorded for training purposes." The calls were placed by consumers to businesses across 30 industries, including cable and satellite companies, auto dealerships, pest control centers…
In the 1970s and 80s, the Lincolnwood hotel was the place to be for weddings and celebrations. A mobster was gunned down in the parking lot, and Michael Jordan announced his rookie Chicago Bull year there.
Lincolnwood Mayor Jerry Turry told Patch there was once a point when residents asked him how they could obtain a brick from the iconic Purple Hotel. At the time, speculation spread throughout the community that the site would be demolished. Those rumors would later be dismissed, however, after Skokie based developer North Capital, LLC purchased the site with plans to redevelop and rehab the structure. Now, those residents may get their wish. The Purple Hotel is going to be demolished, according to Chicago Real Estate Daily. The sale of Lincolnwood's Purple Hotel was confirmed in late May by The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The site was purchased by Jake Weiss, founder of North Capital, for $8.3 …
