From a single officer in the late 1800s, the Niles Police Department has grown to 58 officers, 16 supervisors and 37…More auxiliaries. They enforce laws, protect citizens and property, apprehend offenders, offer community outreach and help in emergency and non-emergency situations.
The department is housed in a 2005 building that won a 2007 Design Excellence award from the American Institute of Architects -- Chicago. It is at the northwest corner of Touhy and Milwaukee avenues.
In addition to offering police services such as crime prevention and crime fighting, the department offers public outreach, including the National Night Out, a community event held each year in August, and the Citizens Police Academy, a 10-week class about police work.
