Two years ago, the Maine East football team finished dead last in the linemen challenge. This year, they beat out 12 teams and take home first.
Coach Gabe Cory knows that if you're going to win football games, you're going to have to put the time in to compete. His three-year game plan may be showing signs of fruition, as Maine East football took first place at CSL's Linemen Challenge on July 13 at Glenbrook North High School. The competition featured 19 teams from 12 different high schools. Just two years ago, the mostly same group of kids finished dead last in the linemen challenge. Last year, they came in ninth place. This year, however, they brought home the top prize and finished first. Unlike wide receivers and running backs, who participate in 7-on-7 scrimmages, linemen must compete in brute strength exercises during the offseason. Some of the challenges include flipping …

Take our poll and see if you prove the numbers wrong.
New year, new you. As we put up a fresh calendar and embark upon 2012 many of us have made resolutions. A resolution to lose weight, a resolution to quit smoking or just a promise to be a better person. But how many of us actually keep the promises we make to ourselves and live up to our New Year's resolutions? Apparently, not very many. According to New York Times health columnist Tara Parker-Pope, four out of five people will eventually break them. "In fact, a third won’t even make it to the end of January," writes Parker-Pope. A large portion of that is due to people setting goals they simply can't keep. Especially when it comes to getting in shape or exercising. "It's the same scene every year. On Jan. 1, there is a big spike in …

From perennial classics to overlooked gems, here are ten specials guaranteed to brighten your holiday.
The winter holidays are a perfect time for movies. Frigid temperatures and snow flurries make a bowl of popcorn and the warm glow of a television screen all the more enticing. Generations of filmgoers annually return to the pictures that they treasured as children, from the life-affirming uplift of A Christmas Carol and It’s a Wonderful Life to the endearingly relatable satire of A Christmas Story and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Yet some of the finest cinematic gems of the season were never intended for the big screen. My most deeply cherished holiday movies are all contained on archaic VHS tapes that were once used to capture must-see TV long before the era of DVRs and instant streaming. Direct from my video library, here are …
