Morton Grove Crime: Armed Robbery, Cannabis, Theft

Among other crime, an armed robber who has become known as the "hair salon bandit" displayed a gun in a salon robbery. An arrest is merely an accusation and not evidence of a conviction.

  ARRESTS Jason Utahal, 33, of Roselle was stopped for traffic violations at Dempster and Harlem Jan. 3, police said. They arrested him after learning there was an arrest warrant for him, according to the report. Court date is scheduled for 2/11/13 Evan Cobb Yates, 23, of Skokie was stopped for traffic violations Jan. 4 at Dempster and Waukegan, police said, and charged with possession of cannabis. Court date is scheduled for 02/06/13. Morton Grove Men Used Air Gun in Robbery, Police Say

Three 19-year-olds were robbed at gunpoint in Winnetka early Saturday morning. Two men from Morton Grove and another from Skokie have been charged in the crime.

  Three men were robbed at gunpoint by three other men while walking through the area of Locust St. and Pine St. in Winnetka on Saturday morning, according to a press release from the Winnetka Police Department. According to the release, one of the offenders displayed a pistol and ordered the victims to give up their wallets and phones. Two of the offenders then ran to a waiting SUV driven by a third offender. A call was immediately placed to the authorities and the Winnetka Police Department, assisted by the Northfield Police Department, found a vehicle matching the description within minutes. Armed Robber Displayed Handgun, Police Say

He made off with an undisclosed amount of money from a business. An arrest is merely an accusation and not evidence of a conviction.

  A man in his 40s displayed a handgun during an armed robbery of a hair salon in the 5600 block of Touhy at about 8:40 p.m. Dec. 28, according to police reports. The robber took an unknown amount of money and fled on foot, police said; they are investigating.  Domestic dispute complicated by drug use Police responded to a domestic dispute Dec. 28 at about 6:45 p.m. at a residence in the 8400 block of Milwaukee Avenue. A 24-year-old man told them his 22-year-old girlfriend, whom he identified as a heroin addict, had been involved in an argument over personal issues, according to the report. Man Charged In Stabbing Of Cabbie Last Week

A Chicago man, who police said stabbed a cab driver in Park Ridge, was charged with armed robbery on Aug. 28.

  A 23-year-old Chicago man was charged with armed robbery, a Class X felony, after he allegedly stabbed a cab driver. Antonio C. Olivier is alleged to have stabbed and robbed a cab driver in Park Ridge near the intersection of Elm Street and Wisner Avenue on Aug. 22 around 9:30 p.m. The location is about five blocks south of Oakton Street in Niles. Olivier directed the cab driver to an unlit street claiming that he needed to speak to his family. When the driver pulled over, Olivier demanded money from the cab driver and then proceeded to stab the man in the side of the head and also in the stomach, police said. Cabbie Stabbed In Park Ridge Armed Robbery

He had serious injuries. It happened near Elm and Wisner Wednesday at 9:38 pm, and the assailant fled on foot. Police are looking for information.

  Park Ridge police released the following statement Thursday afternoon:  Detectives from the Park Ridge Police Department are investigating an armed robbery which occurred on Wednesday, August 22 at approximately 9:38 p.m. At that time, police officers responded to the area of Elm and Wisner and learned that a cab driver had been stabbed and robbed by his fare while en route to O’Hare airport. The driver, a 42-year-old Chicago Ridge man, sustained non-life threatening, but serious, injuries and was transported to Lutheran General Hospital from the scene. Armed Robber Stalks, Threatens Woman

He allegedly followed her by car in traffic and said 'I know you have $1,000 from the coin shop' before displaying a weapon, police said. An arrest is merely an accusation and not evidence of a conviction.

  Peter Frauenhoffer, 29 of Des  Plaines has been charged with armed robbery after allegedly following a woman from a coin shop and threatening her last Thursday at about 3:25 p.m. Niles police said the victim, a 58-year-old Mount Prospect woman, noticed a car tail-gating her starting around the 9000 block of Golf Road as she drove eastward. She pulled into a parking lot in the 8200 block of Golf in Niles and did not see the offender's black SUV. While she was sitting in her car, Frauenhoffer, displaying a large metal file, approached her, according to the report. Guilty Plea: Former Niles Police Employee

Gary Amato, a former civilian employee of the Niles Police Department, pleaded guilty Monday to fabricating an armed robbery in 2011, while he attempted to steal village funds.

It's a guilty plea from Gary Amato, the former Niles Police Department civilian employee, for concocting a story he was robbed by three suspects , who he said stole village funds in the summer of 2011, according to a press release from the Niles Police Department.    The plea was made Monday at the Cook Country 2nd District Courthouse in Skokie.  Amato admitted later he fabricated the story that three Hispanic robbbed him at knifepoint as he attempted to make $45,000 in deposits for the police department. Police Employee Charged With Staging $44,000 'Armed' Robbery

Gary Amato was stabbed in Jan. 18 robbery, but admitted fabricating story that three assailants attacked him.

Initially, Niles Police thought they were investigating an armed robbery. Civilian Niles Police Department employee Gary Amato was en route to make a $44,000 bank deposit in January, and told police three men had threatened him with a gun, stabbed him and robbed him. On Friday, the Cook County State's Attorney's office said Amato admitted concocting the story and took the money himself. Stabbing Victim Released From Hospital

The Village of Niles employee injured during an armed robbery Jan. 18 has gone home.

After spending four days at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, the 53-year-old man stabbed in the shoulder during an armed robbery in Niles last Tuesday was released late Friday.   The man works for the Niles Police Department as a civilian employee, and at the request of his family, the department is not releasing his name yet.  According to Sgt. Robert Tornabene of the department, it's continuing the investigation into the armed robbery, which happened the morning of Jan. 18 at Davis St. and Grace Ave., Niles, at the south end of Golf Mill Park, which is south of Golf Mill Shopping Center's JCPenney parking lot.  Tornabene would not comment on the extent of the injury, but said the man's condition was good.  The incident began when one …

Police Ask Public's Help In Armed Robbery Case

They aren't releasing name of victim, who was stabbed.

Niles Police are asking anyone who was near the south end of Golf Mill Shopping Center, specifically at the intersection of Davis Street and Grace Avenue, Tuesday around 9:40 a.m. to call them if they witnessed anything unusual.   They're looking for any information which may lead to two suspects in an armed robbery which left a Village of Niles employee injured with stab wounds from a knife. The intersection is at the south border of Golf Mill Park, Niles, which in turn is just south of  Golf Mill Shopping Center.
