No couples from Morton Grove, according to a Cook County spokesperson.
Today marks the first opportunity for same-sex couples to obtain civil union licenses in Illinois. Cook County Clerk David Orr's office issued a statement about 3 p.m., highlighting the number of civil union licenses at more than 150, along with a video on the day's first same-sex couple, which we have attached. Pat Quinn already on board, it's just a matter of time before he makes it official. Cook County Clerk Daivd Orr said he was very pleased that Illinois finally took this "crucial step" toward equailty. "While religions function under their own rules, government cannot and should not discriminate against any group of people," Orr said. "As a longtime supporter of civil unions, I anxiously await the day I issue the first license in Cook County." Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D), released a statement supporting the bill and Senate. "With [this bill], Illinois removes some of the most egregious barriers …

This act along with others across the country is bringing equality to a portion of our society and our communities that has seen a great lack of rights to their freedoms. Saying it is ok to wait several generations for this justice is not …   more ›
