U.S. News and World Report's annual high school rankings are out and School District 219 is unranked.
District 219's Niles North and Niles West high school were unranked in U.S. News and World Report's annual high school rankings. The magazine released their data on Monday. The number one high school in Illinois is Northside College Preparatory High School in Chicago, according to U.S. News and World Report's annual rankings. The best suburban school: Adlai E. Stevenson in Lincolnshire, coming in at number five. Despite having the second highest cost per pupil in the state, Niles North and Niles West remained unranked by the magazine for the second straight year. According to the data, Niles North has a "college readiness" rating of 29.6 out of a possible 100. Its neighbor, Niles West, has a 28.1. In contrast, the number one ranked …

Niles North cheerleading coach and math teacher Jeffery Tackes was ordered not to make contact with two Niles North cheerleaders, court records show. District 219 told Skokie Patch that they were unaware Tackes invited the team to his Bensenville home.
Former Niles North cheerleading coach and math teacher, Jeffery Tackes, entered a plea of not guilty to charges of sexually exploiting a minor at the DuPage County Courthouse in Wheaton on Thursday. Tackes, 30, is not allowed to make contact with two varsity cheerleaders from Niles North, according to court records. The alleged incident took place at Tackes' Bensenville home on Dec. 15, 2010, police said. However, he was told not to make contact with the alleged victims after he was charged more than a year later. Skokie Patch is not releasing the names of the alleged victims because they are minors. Though not many Niles-area schools are planning events for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is observed today, some teachers have taught about the noted civil rights leader's principles. Other schools, such as Northwestern University, have planned elaborate commemorations. Efforts could save the district “hundreds of thousands” of dollars
The Niles Township High School District 219 school board agreed Monday night to continue working with other school districts and other taxing bodies in Niles Township to fight efforts from property owners to get refunds on their property taxes. The school board agreed to authorize the law firm Franczek Radelet P.C. to act on behalf of the Niles Township Property Tax Appeals Cooperative in challenging appeals filed for assessment years 2010-11 before the Cook County Board of Review, and to pay the cooperative more than $35,000 for work done on behalf of the district so far. Class project shows most students plan to avoid skilled labor, even though the economy will need workers.
For all the high school students out there wondering whether they will ever find jobs, two Niles West High School students have a word of advice: Forget getting a four-year university degree. Think skilled labor. Ayush Shrestha and Matt Micelli studied the need for skilled workers as part of a project for their DECA marketing class and found that few students express interest in jobs in fields from electronics and HVAC to tailoring. The class required them to research a topic and then publicize it. Students are missing the opportunities that will become available as the economy improves and the Baby Boomers that hold skilled labor jobs retire in the 2010s, Shrestha said.
